U.S. Government-Funded Project Organizes Day Camps for Children

U.S. Government Assistance to Lebanon

150 children from South Lebanon attend days camps aimed at supporting conflict-affected communitiesIsraa, age 8 is one of 150 children aged 3-10 who participated in a U.S. Government-supported camp providing art and cultural activities for children touched by the violence in the village of Zawtar El Garbiyye in the district of Nabatiyeh in South Lebanon. The Social and Cultural Club of Zawtar El Garbiyye, a local volunteer organization dedicated to supporting cultural development and programs for children, organized and ran the day camp.

The camp is just one of many community support projects that Mercy Corps is currently implementing to help conflict-affected children and youth. The projects range from Internet training and connectivity projects to sports, art events and volunteerism. These activities are complemented by Mercy Corps' commitment to rehabilitate 43 schools in Nabatiyeh, Marjeyoun and Baalbek, in an effort to help communities return to normalcy in conflict-affected areas, while investing in Lebanon’s future.
