Villages Receive Clean Water With Help From the United States

U.S. Government Assistance to Lebanon

Within the context of a USG-funded program, the Cooperative Housing Foundation (CHF) distributed more than 450 reservoirs, each of which has a capacity of 1,000 liters, in the villages of Yarine and Tibnine in South Lebanon. More than 2,200 villagers have thus far benefited from this donation since the beginning of October. The importance of this initiative lies in the fact that CHF has employed local villages to assist in the delivery of the reservoirs in each village, consequently creating new job opportunities on the local level. Most of these beneficiaries have lost their homes as a result of the latest crisis and this donation will enable them to have access to clean water for their daily use.

This initiative falls within the U.S. Government-funded Humanitarian Assistance for Lebanon, HAL I program. Funded at a level of $2.6 million, the program aims to provide life saving humanitarian assistance to families who considerably suffered from the latest crisis in Lebanon. Program activities primarily cover water and sanitation, psychological interventions and the provision of food and non food items to the affected population. More than 20,000 beneficiaries in 18 villages in Bint Jbeil and Tyre benefit from the program, including 3,500 fishermen from towns along the Lebanese coastline.

For the first time since the crisis, more than 2,000 villagers have clean water at home with USG funding.
