A needy family in the village of Ain Arab in Marjeyoun receives hygiene kits from the United States. The U.S. Government is responding to the specific needs of vulnerable families who have been affected by the latest conflict by donating non-food items in a number of villages in the south. Implemented by the International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC), the program targets the families of victims who are deceased or who have been injured, families of people with disabilities, families caring for orphans and elderly people living on their own. Almost 3,000 families benefited from the distribution of non-food items and supplies throughout 65 villages in the districts of Bint Jbeil, Marjayoun, Hasbaya and Tyre.

This U.S. Government-funded program addresses the need of the most vulnerable citizens in South Lebanon, in areas where IOCC is well established through an existing school feeding and education program that has been in implementation for the past five years. Funded at a level of $1,999,427, the program aims to support 350,000 residents in 65 South villages in the districts of Bint Jbeil, Marjeyoun, Hasbeyya and seven villages in Tyre. Beneficiaries include 15,000 returnees and 7,000 school students. The main program components are water and sanitation interventions, distribution of educational material for psychological and social support, infrastructure rehabilitation of 23 public schools, as well as distribution of emergency relief supplies for 2,900 vulnerable families.
