Villagers Receive Gift of New Generator from the United States

U.S. Government Assistance to Lebanon

U.S. Embassy Beirut
October 30, 2006

Taybe village (in the district of Marjeyoun) was heavily bombarded during the July-August conflict resulting in badly damaged water and sanitation (WATSAN) infrastructure. With funding from the United States, World Vision Lebanon responded to the needs of the 4,500 Taybe village citizens by replacing 300 destroyed water storage tanks and filling 600 water tanks with potable water for clean water for cooking and personal hygiene. The entire village also benefited from the donation of four 135 KVA generators that draws water from the wells which are the primary source of water in the village.

These three activities fall under the portfolio of the Lebanon Emergency Response and Assistance Project (LERAP), implemented by World Vision Lebanon. Funded at a level of $1,806,746, the grant responds to the water and sanitation (WATSAN) needs of more than 40,000 villagers in more than 30 villages in the areas of Marjeyoun and Bint Jbeil. The project responds to the most immediate needs of the severely affected villages of the South through the provision of water tanks, hygiene items, water tanking services, generators that pump water and diesel fuel. World Vision Lebanon also addresses the long-term needs of area residents by rehabilitating water systems in affected villages and providing hygiene education to children.

Residents of the village of Taybe celebrate the donation of four new generators to draw water from the wells to the village.
