Healthy Kids Training

USAID: Humanitarian Assistance to Lebanon

U.S. Embassy Beirut
November 1, 2006

More than 690 school children in South Lebanon learn how to stay healthy with funding from the U.S. Government. With funding from the U.S. Government, more than 690 children learn about personal hygiene skills at school. Implemented by World Vision Lebanon, the program introduced this hygiene education component into seven public schools in the following Southern villages: Klayaa, Jdeidet Marjayoun, Adaysse, Kfar Kila, Ibl Es-Saqi and Blat. The program is part of an awareness campaign that started at the onset of the school year, featuring a medical doctor touring classes and educating young children aged 12 and less on how to perform daily hygiene activities, such as washing themselves, brushing their teeth, protecting themselves from germs, and other related subjects.

This activity falls under the portfolio of the Lebanon Emergency Response and Assistance Project (LERAP), which is being implemented by World Vision Lebanon. Funded at a level of $1,806,746, the program responds to the water and sanitation (WATSAN) needs of more than 40,000 villagers in more than 40 villages distributed in the areas of Marjeyoun and Bint Jbeil. The project responds to the most immediate needs of the severely affected villages of the South through the provision of water tanks, hygiene items, water tankering services, generators that pump water and diesel fuel. World Vision Lebanon also addresses the long-term needs of area residents by rehabilitating water systems in affected villages and providing hygiene education to children.
