Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month, 2008: Ken Obata ReimanOffice of Civil RightsWashington, DC May 5, 2008 Ken Reiman is a third tour officer who previously served in Taiwan and Nigeria. Ken is an Economic Officer at U.S. Embassy Beijing. Prior to joining the Department of State, Ken briefly worked at a Japanese finance/lease company. Ken also worked as a summer intern on the Japan Desk in 2001.
Ken is originally from Arizona. He is proud to be Japanese-American and joined the U.S. Department of State in 2002. He takes an active personal interest in promoting United States-Japan ties wherever he is posted. In Lagos, Nigeria, Ken organized softball tournaments between the U.S. and Japanese Embassies as a way to promote friendship. At Embassy Beijing, he published an article in Japanese in a Japanese business quarterly promoting the U.S. Foreign Service, highlighting our diplomatic efforts in China and Japan. Ken obtained a bachelor’s degree at Georgetown University and master’s degree in East Asian Studies at Stanford University. Ken speaks Mandarin and Japanese. While he has yet to serve a tour in Japan, he eagerly awaits the opportunity to do so in the future. Released on May 8, 2008 |
