May 23, 2005 Shamila N. Chaudhary is a Desk Officer for the Indonesia and East Timor Office in the East Asia & Pacific Affairs Bureau at the U.S. Department of State. She works on Indonesia economic policy, development, and post-tsunami reconstruction. She was previously a Research Analyst on democracy and governance issues with USAID Development Information Services and has also worked at National Democratic Institute, Human Rights Watch, and the Institute for Women's Studies Lahore. She received her MA in International Affairs from American University, with concentrations on comparative politics of Asia, Islamic studies, and international peace and conflict resolution. She received a BA in English Literature and Women's Studies from University of Toledo, where she was engaged in developing curriculum and teaching courses on international women's issues. She is a 1999 National Security Education Program Fellow, which supported her study of Urdu and research on nationalist movements in South Asia.
