U.S. Military Engage ECA Alumni in UzbekistanTashkent, Uzbekistan March 2, 2004 Col. Carol Risher, a teacher at the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base and former Future Leaders Exchange program (FLEX) host mother, traveled with her class to Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on March 2. She contacted the FLEX alumni office in Tashkent and arranged for her class to meet with alumni at a reception hosted by the Embassy's Military Attache. The class also visited a school where they participated in a chat with schools in four regions of Uzbekistan linked through the school connectivity program funded under an Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) grant to the International Research and Exchanges Organization (IREX). In response to questions about the placement of U.S. military forces in their country, they emphasized Uzbekistan's cooperation with the U.S. in fighting the war on terrorism. The Air War College class now wants to have their children correspond with students in Uzbekistan. IREX is planning to build on this connection to include students of military families in the Connectivity network.
