Photos: International Cooperation Saves Snow LeopardPakistan, August 8, 2006: Through the coordinated efforts of the governments of the United States and Pakistan, an orphaned snow leopard cub, one of the world’s most endangered mammals, is being transferred from the Naltar valley in northern Pakistan to a temporary home at the Bronx Zoo. Assistant Secretary of State for Oceans, Environment, and Science Claudia A. McMurray, who played a key role in facilitating the transfer, said this cooperative venture is a symbol of the Government of Pakistan’s commitment to conservation. It also demonstrates the breadth of US-Pakistani relations and signals an important victory for wildlife worldwide. Below are pictures of the snow leopard sent from Pakistan before he began his journey, provided courtesy of the World Conservation Union.
