Jean was born in Haiti and moved to Miami, Florida, at age 10. He received his Bachelor’s of Arts in History from the University of Florida in 1998 and a Master’s of Science in Foreign Service (MSFS) from Georgetown University in 2002. Jean spent two years abroad as an undergraduate: as a sophomore, he attended a Chinese language program in Xi’An, China; during his senior year, he attended the Stanford Center at National Taiwan University.
Jean L. Pierre-Louis is currently in his third Foreign Service (FS) tour. A political officer by cone, Jean is the Special Assistant for the Office of the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization (S/CRS). Jean joined the Department in June 2003 and in December of that year, moved to China to serve as General Services Officer at U.S. Consulate General Shanghai. During his second tour, Jean served as Economic and Consular Section Chief at the Kaohsiung Branch Office of the American Institute in Taiwan.
