James Simmons is a native of Milledgeville, Georgia where he attended Georgia Military College Preparatory High School. Upon graduation, he moved to Atlanta to pursue a Bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University.
During his studies and experiences, he developed an interest in public service. Graduating with Cum Laude accolades, he set forth goals to work in government on the local level with hopes of one day progressing to the federal sector. When he entered the Master of Public Administration graduate program at Kennesaw State University, Mr. Simmons explored the option of an internship within the federal government. Trying his luck, Mr. Simmons applied and was selected for a Spring 2008 internship with the Department of State. Hoping this would be the right decision but unaware of any guarantee of future employment, he accepted. During his internship, Mr. Simmons received outstanding acknowledgements from the management staff and was successful in securing a permanent position within the Bureau of Human Resources, Office of Recruitment, Examination and Employment.
Mr. Simmons finds his career to be both exciting and rewarding. He is ecstatic about the many opportunities available at the State Department and encourages students and other professionals to consider a career in public service. He serves as a true testament of hard work paying off when you set goals and follow your dreams.
