Julie Alvarado-Ortiz is the heart and brains that keeps the United Nations Political Affairs Office in the Bureau of International Organization Affairs running smoothly. With over 12 years of service to the Department of State, Julie has worked at posts around the world, including Brussels, Brazilia, Berlin, Mexico City, Panama, and the Hague. For the past 4 years she has been the sole office management specialist for IO/UNP responsible for an office of 15 Foreign Service and civil service officers plus 2-3 interns.
She is a dedicated and hard-working problem-solver and a trusted friend and confidant for her colleagues. In her free time, she enjoys salsa dancing, yoga, and being an abuela to her brand new granddaughter. This nomination was provided by her colleagues in recognition of her service and friendship.
