INL Air Wing is now assisting Embassies Baghdad and Kabul with movement of passengers in order to accomplish those posts’ respective missions. In both Afghanistan and Iraq, the U.S. Government is increasing its civilian presence in areas around the country, often to places that are difficult to reach without air assets because of distance, poor road networks, or security threats. Here, two S-61 Sikorsky helicopters to be used for Embassy support were delivered in mid December to Afghanistan. The S-61can carry up to 21 personnel and have been upgraded to improve aircraft supportability.
