Abbie and Anna Richey-Allen are a tandem couple who joined the Department of State on Valentine’s Day 2011. They are currently serving as consular officers in their first assignment in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
Abbie and Anna have been a couple since 1999 when they met in a freshman history class at Sarah Lawrence College. Both obtained their Juris Doctorate from the University of Minnesota with honors. Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Abbie practiced litigation in a Minneapolis law firm and Anna worked in public interest and criminal law.
Abbie and Anna celebrated their commitment with friends and family on New Year’s Eve 2007 in Boston. They are now excited that they will soon be able to legally wed in Anna’s home state of Minnesota and optimistic that their marriage will be federally recognized in the near future. In October, their family will relocate to Manila, where Abbie will be a consular officer and Anna will be assistant information officer.
