Michael Margolies is a State Department Foreign Service officer with almost 13 years of experience in the Foreign Service, during which time he has always been a member of Gays and Lesbians in Foreign Affairs Agencies (GLIFAA). He has served as GLIFAA’s Vice President for the State Department since August, 2012.
Michael is currently in training at the Foreign Service Institute as he prepares for his next assignment at the U.S. consulate general in Frankfurt, Germany. He last served as the management officer at the U.S. Embassy in Cotonou, Benin. Since he joined the Foreign Service in 2000, Michael has worked as an intelligence analyst at State’s INR Bureau, at Embassy Tel Aviv as an economic and consular officer, and at Embassy Gaborone, Botswana as the consular chief. He served his first tour at Embassy Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Michael grew up in California and lived in Louisiana for many years before joining the Foreign Service. Michael is engaged to marry his domestic partner of six years. Their wedding is planned for LGBT Pride month, June, in Washington, DC.
