In March 2012, Special Representative Lewis traveled to Geneva, Switzerland. She attended “The Road to Rio: Regions Building the Green Economy” Conference, which was hosted by the Assembly of European Regions and the R20. The conference brought together regional leaders and experts around the world to pave the way for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in June 2012. At the conference, Special Representative Lewis delivered remarks on the importance of cities in greening economies and achieving sustainability.
Special Representative Lewis also participated in an International Women’s Day 2012 event organized by US Mission Geneva, the International Trade Center, and the Organization for Women in Trade. Special Representative Lewis moderated a panel discussion on “Leveraging the Power of Women’s Networks to Effect Change.”
