U.S.-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED): A Subnational Focus

Special Representative for Global Intergovernmental Affairs Reta Jo Lewis traveled to China, April 30-May 9, 2012, to promote subnational engagement. She visited the cities of Beijing, Changchun, and Harbin. Special Representative Lewis served as a member of the U.S. Delegation to the U.S.-China S&ED. On May 3, she joined Secretary Clinton at a signing ceremony in Beijing to welcome five new U.S.-China Ecopartnerships which brought together local entities in the United States and China.
Following the U.S.-China S&ED, Special Representative Lewis traveled to Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces in Northeast China. She met with provincial officials to promote U.S.-China subnational cooperation and to garner support for expansion of the U.S.-China Governors Forum to include targeted regional linkages between Northeast Chinese provinces and Northeastern U.S. States.
