Michael N. Ayoub has served in both State Foreign Service and Civil Service since 1991 and is currently a counterpiracy officer with the Bureau of Political Military Affairs. He has served for a combined total of 26 years active and reserve duty as an Army Military Intelligence Officer (Airborne). He commanded a special intelligence unit in Bosnia, served as a UNSCOM weapons inspector/operations officer in Iraq in 1994, and most recently as the Deputy (forward acting) Director for the Coalition Forces Special Operations Command, Joint Intelligence Center, Qatar.
As a State employee, he was among the first into Baghdad in April of 2003 as an Advisor to the Office of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Affairs (ORHA) and later CPA. In this capacity, he served as Senior Advisor to the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission and was instrumental in both securing 550 tons of unprotected Iraqi yellowcake from the Tuwaithe nuclear site and the earlier “buy-back” of irradiated containers looted from the facility. Mr. Ayoub was medically retired from the military in 2006 following line of duty injuries sustained while deployed with SOCCENT.
