"I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1978 and went to boot camp in Great Lakes, IL which included “blizzard” conditions that winter. In boot camp I was the company clerk for Company 022. After boot camp went to Meridian, MS for “A” school training as a personnelman for two months. My first permanent assignment was for two years at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL in VT-86, a pilot’s training school across from the “Blue Angels” hangar. The next assignment was on board the USS HOLLAND AS-32 homeported in Holy Loch, Scotland for two years. From there, the next duty station was at the Royal Air Force Base in Brawdy, Wales at the U.S. Naval Facility for four years. The following assignment was to the Naval Education and Training Center in Newport Rhode Island for four years where I became the source data systems site manager. After that it was back overseas again to the USS ORION AS-18 homeported in La Maddalena, Italy, a small island between Sardinia and Corsica for three years where I qualified for the coveted enlisted surface warfare specialist designation. The ORION was decommissioned at the end of this tour in Norfolk, VA. From Norfolk it was off to Albany, NY to work in the Federal Building for the last four years in new recruit processing where I became the enlisted processing division supervisor. I retired with 20 years service! I now work at the New York Passport Agency in NYC."
