Justin Carter served six and a half years in the U.S. Navy. Justin enlisted in 2004 as a hospital corpsman. His first duty station was in Okinawa, Japan, with 3rd Marine Logistics Battalion. While in Okinawa, Justin won Junior Sailor of the Year for his battalion. Also, he earned his Fleet Marine Force Enlisted Specialist Warfare badge, and was promoted to E-4. Upon leaving Japan, Justin was promoted to E-5 shortly after. Justin’s next duty station would be Naval Hospital Portsmouth, VA, where he would be deployed to 1st Battalion, 6th Marines, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, in Garmsir, Afghanistan. While in Afghanistan, he served as weapons company senior corpsman responsible for managing the healthcare and emergency trauma of over 200 marines and sailors. He was honorably discharged in January 2011.
Justin’s awards include: two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, Combat Action Ribbon, two Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation (MUC), Navy Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, two Global War on Terrorism (Expeditionary), two Global War on Terrorism (Service), Navy Sea Service Deployment, two Navy and Marine Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Non Art 5 ISAF Medal (Afghanistan). Justin now works at FSI, School of Professional Area Studies, Office Management Training Division as a program assistant.
