James J. Finkle entered the United States Air Force on active duty, July 12, 1968. He remained on active duty for 4 years and then entered the Maine Air National Guard, the New York Air National Guard, and United States Air Force Reserves where he remained for 6 years until retirement. He served in uniform for 37 years. He served in Vietnam, Japan, South Korea, Turkey, and Germany. In November 2005, he retired at Andrews Air Force Base (AFB), home of Air Force One, where he was the Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the Chief of Public Affairs.
A “Mustang,” Lt. Colonel Finkle served 13 years as an enlisted man and served out the remainder of his time as a commissioned officer. Highlights of his career include working with Warner Brothers on the movie, "The Perfect Storm", and serving as on-scene Public Affairs Officer at the crash site of TWA Flight 800, and as the senior media officer at Andrews AFB for the arrival and departure ceremony of former President Reagan.
Mr. Finkle joined the Department of State under the Bureau of Diplomatic Security in May 2009. He is currently assigned to the Office of Website Management in the Bureau of Public Affairs.
