2009 Women's History Month: Sandy Robinson

After graduating from Grinnell College in 1980 with a BA in American Politics, Ms. Robinson worked for the State of Iowa for 3 years before joining the Foreign Service. In her 24 years as a Management Officer, she’s served overseas in Turkey, Germany, Cuba, Tajikistan, and Taiwan. In Washington, she served as a Conference Manager in the Bureau of International Organizations, a Science Affairs Officer in the Bureau of Oceans Environment and Science, a Staff Assistant for the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Administrative Operations, a Post Management Officer in the Africa Bureau, a Senior Watch Officer in the State Department Operations Center, and Executive Director in the Bureau of Legislative Affairs. She is currently the Executive Director for the Bureaus of Oceans, Environment and Science; and Democracy, Human Rights and Labor.


Outside the State Department, Ms. Robinson serves on the American Foreign Service Association Board of Directors and is a member of Executive Women in Government. She also serves on the Board of Directors for Arlington’s largest non-profit food pantry, the Arlington Food Assistance Center. An avid gardener, she is a member of the Ft. Barnard Community Garden.
