A native of West Virginia, Teresa Stewart is an FS-01 management cone officer currently assigned to Embassy Accra as the management counselor. Prior to this assignment she was a Bureau of African Affairs rover management officer.
She proudly joined the Foreign Service in 1979 as a secretary with her first assignment in Kigali, Rwanda. In 1985 she became a management officer via the Mustang Program. She has served in all three sub-functions of the management cone: financial management officer, human resources officer and general services officer. Her assignments have been Kigali, Niamey, twice in Geneva (most recently in 2003 as Chief of Conference Services), Copenhagen, Ouagadougou, Nicosia, two Washington assignments, 1992-94 as a PMO in WHA and 2000-03 at FSI as coordinator of orientation for specialists where she assisted 1,831 specialists make the transition into the Foreign Service. She served in Yaounde, Maseru, and was the first management officer in our Liaison Office (now Embassy) in Tripoli and following that as management counselor in Montevideo.
She is the recipient of three Superior Honor Awards, three Meritorious Awards, two Meritorious Service Increases, and the ICASS Customer Service Award. Prior to joining the Foreign Service she worked in real estate financing in a bank in Milwaukee, WI.
