Mrs. Göncz, wife of the former President of Hungary, was instrumental in organizing the exhibit of Hungarian public service ads on cancer prevention. Ambassador Brinker: "I'm a fierce patriot and always wanted to serve in some capacity. My mother taught us the importance of stewardship and impressed on us that democracy isn't free. It is my great pleasure to be able to serve my country during this time, with this President and this Secretary."

"[The U.S. - Hungarian] relationship remains, in essence, a partnership -- a partnership between equals, where both parties benefit from the relationship. For the future, I envision a three-fold partnership: a partnership of security, a partnership of commerce, and a partnership of democracy. In these areas, I believe, the United States and Hungary share common goals, values and interests: These will be the pillars on which we can continue to build our mutual cooperation."

Homestate: Florida
