Bonnie McElveen-Hunter, Ambassador to Finland

Ambassador McElveen-Hunter celebrates celebrates
Ambassador Bonnie McElveen-Hunter celebrates "America Days" in Tampere (August 17) with young Finnish cowboys and cowgirls who enjoyed the "Wild West" theme of this year's event. "America Days" are celebrated annually by the League of Finnish-American Societies, which was established in 1943 and which has 62 local chapters and 20,000 members, making it the world's largest USA friendship association. In her remarks to the gathering in Tampere, Ambassador McElveen-Hunter noted that "Tampere was the first city in Finland to make 'e-government' a reality. This epitomizes the quality of Finland that I have come to admire so much -- your own pioneering spirit that creates such a strong bond between our two countries."  (Photo courtesy of Embassy Helsinki.)

Ambassador McElveen-Hunter: "I feel a tremendous responsibility as the Ambassador to Finland ... I have the responsibility of representing the values, ideals and authority of the United States of America. I am honored and humbled to have been selected by the President, blessed by the Senate and instructed by the Secretary of State. I have found that the art of diplomacy takes discipline, hard work, talent, communication and a lot of inspiration!"

Home State: Greensboro, North Carolina
