Special Advisor Jacobs: The Hague Convention provides a civil remedy for the prompt return of children when they are taken from their habitual residence to another country. For a long time, many countries believed that this was a Western convention, but the recent ratification by Japan, Korea, Singapore, Thailand has shown that this is a convention that applies to Asian countries as well, and can protect their children from a wrongful removal. We are very pleased that Japan joined this convention because we have a number of outstanding cases with Japan, and even while those might not be resolved by the Convention, Japan is now our partner -- we have a really good relationship with their central authority. And we look forward to working with them in the future.
