MAY 2004 -- Kevin Skillin is a veteran Hometown Diplomat, having twice participated in the program to his hometown of Indiana, Pennsylvania. The highlight of Mr. Skillin’s most recent experience was his 2-day visit to Indiana High School where he generated widespread interest in the State Department to a group of nearly 400 social studies students in grades 9-12. Additionally, he met with local print journalists, an Indiana County Commissioner, the President of the Indiana Area Chamber of Commerce, and the County Director of Economic Planning and Development, where he discussed his experiences in Oman, and the United States’ relations with the Middle East and the work the State Department is doing to promote peace, prosperity, and stability overseas.
Mr. Skillin hopes to continue in the Hometown Diplomat Program: “Considering the exposure my visit to Indiana received, and the positive feedback from students and teachers at the high school, this program was highly successful. I pledged to stay in contact with any student who is interested in our work at the State Department, and I hope to receive other opportunities to speak to audiences in Pennsylvania about our important work.”
