Regional Programs

The Regional Programs team arranges public programming in the United States outside the Washington, DC area. As liaison to many organizations across the country, the division encourages dialogue between U.S. Department of State policymakers and the American public to improve public awareness of and involvement in the Department and its work. To encourage such dialog, the Regional Programs staff:

  • Sends U.S. Department of State officials around the country to address conferences and civic organizations, meet with community leaders, and speak at academic institutions. These public outreach programs are arranged to accommodate full- or half-day agendas and encourage the exchange of information and opinions with a broad cross-section of groups in the community.
  • Organizes videoconferences to enable U.S. Department of State officials to speak with civic and foreign policy groups, professional associations and schools and universities.
  • Arranges for Department employees to volunteer their time during travel to their hometowns to speak publicly with local organizations and students through the Hometown Diplomats program.
