12:00 noon     Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Johnnie Carson  will brief reporters ON THE RECORD, ON CAMERA, on the Nigerian Elections.  Assistant Secretary Carson will speak about the recent presidential, parliamentary, and gubernatorial elections held during the month of April.   He will discuss these elections in contrast to the 2007 elections which Nigerian and international observers regarded as one of the worst in Nigeria’s history.

Credentials:  Media representatives may attend this event upon presentation of one of the following: (1) a U.S. Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense or Foreign Press Center), (2) a media-issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).

Attendees who do not have a State Department building pass should enter through the 23rd Street lobby at 11:30 am.
