U.S.-Mexico Binational Border Walk in the Arizona/Sonora Border Area

Delegates from the United States and Mexican Governments and the border states will participate in a Binational Border Walk to be held March 27-29, 2001, in the Arizona/Sonora border area. Delegates will visit the international border crossings at Douglas/Agua Prieta, Naco/Naco and Nogales/Nogales.

The Border Walk is held annually at different locations along the U.S.-Mexican border. The Border Walk gives scores of U.S. and Mexican officials from different agencies, plus representatives of the border states, an opportunity to personally visit the border crossings and evaluate current operations and existing infrastructure, as well as an opportunity to discuss proposals for new border crossings and related issues. This will be the first Border Walk of the Bush and Fox administrations.

The United States Department of State and the Mexican Secretariat of Foreign Relations will lead their respective delegations. The Department of State will host this year's Border Walk. For further information, please contact Jack Hinden, U.S. Department of State, at (202) 647-8529.
