Secretary Powell Travel to Key West Peace Talks

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will travel to Key West, Florida on April 3 to open peace talks on Nagorno-Karabakh. Azerbaijani President Aliyev and Armenian President Kocharian will attend the talks, which are expected to last through April 6. These OSCE-sponsored talks will be mediated by negotiation teams from the United States, Russia and France. Secretary Powell will also have separate meetings with both presidents in Key West. He will return to Washington late on April 3.

Press who wish to be considered for travel with Secretary Powell and have not already contacted the Office of Press Relations may add their names to the sign-up sheet in the Press Office, room 2109, until Tuesday, March 27, at 5:00 p.m.

A background briefing for interested members of the press will be held on Friday, March 30 at 3:00 p.m in the State Department Briefing Room (2209).
