| Taken Questions Richard Boucher, Spokesman Washington, DC April 23, 2001 Question taken at the April 23, 2001 Press Briefing Deputy Secretary Armitage Meets German Environmental Minister JuergenTrittinQUESTION: Please provide a read-out of the meeting this morning between the Deputy Secretary of State and the German Environment Minister. ANSWER: Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage met this morning for thirty minutes with German Federal Minister for the Environment Juergen Trittin. They exchanged views on international climate change negotiations and the Kyoto Protocol. Climate change negotiations that were suspended in The Hague last November are scheduled to resume in Bonn, Germany, and July 16-27. The United States will attend those negotiations. The president has stated that he takes the problem of climate change very seriously. The administration is now engaged in a cabinet-level review of u.s. climate change policy. |
