Israelis/Palestinians: U.S. Input to Mitchell Committee

QUESTION: Does the US make recommendations to the Mitchell Commission or have input into the report?

ANSWER: As Senator Mitchell has said, the Committee intends to conduct its work independently and objectively, in keeping with its mandate as agreed at Sharm Al-Sheikh, and would consult with the widest possible range of sources.

As has been noted many times, this mandate was to work constructively with the Israelis and Palestinians to provide an independent and objective review of the violence with the goal of preventing its recurrence.

We have not provided input to the committee.
