Question Taken at May 24, 2001 press briefing

Mexico: Jose de Jesus Amezcua (Taken Question)

QUESTION: Any comment on our request to Mexico for the extradition of Jose Amezcua?

ANSWER: We welcome the continuing efforts of the government of Mexico to see to it that Jose de Jesus Amezcua is extradited to the U.S. to stand trial on serious drug trafficking charges. The government of Mexico's action is an important step in bringing this major trafficker to justice.

It is also representative of the renewed commitment of both governments to work cooperatively to fight transnational criminal organizations that so negatively impact our nations.
