Tajikistan: Murder of Presidential Adviser Karim Yuldoshev

The United States is shocked and saddened at the news that Karim Yuldoshev, Special Adviser on International and Political Affairs to Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmonov, was murdered in Dushanbe yesterday, July 17. The United States condemns this senseless act of violence, which may have been politically motivated, and extends condolences to his family and colleagues.

Mr. Yuldoshev was shot and killed at mid-day by unidentified individuals who attacked him as he arrived at his home. A special commission reporting directly to President Rahmonov will investigate the murder.

Mr. Yuldoshev was a respected and valued interlocutor for his government with the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe and with the Department of State. The United States expresses gratitude for his long service and dedication to the improvement of U.S.-Tajikistan relations, and shares his country's sense of loss.
