State Department Supports Sporting Goods To Go Program

This week the State Department is shipping over $22,000 worth of sporting goods to Armenia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. The goods were donated by members of the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) under a program entitled SGMA/USA Sporting Goods to Go.

The goods will be delivered to U.S. Peace Corps representatives for distribution to local populations. The shipment to Uzbekistan will include donations from the Women’s National Basketball Association in support of the women’s national basketball team.

Shipment is being arranged through the State Department’s Office of the Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe and Eurasia under its program of humanitarian assistance. The shipper is Panalpina Company in Sterling, VA.

The partnership among the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, its members, the State Department, and the Peace Corps is focused on international sports development and the building of goodwill between nations through sports. Future shipments to other locations are planned.

For further information on this initiative, contact Donna Gigliotti on (703) 312-3427.
