Special Briefing and Release of the Joint U.S.-Peruvian Investigation Report on the April 20 Accidental Shootdown of U.S. Missionary Plane

On Thursday, August 2, at 2:00 p.m., Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Rand Beers will announce the results of the joint U.S.-Peruvian investigation into the April 20 accidental shootdown of a U.S. missionary plane in Peru. This briefing, which is on camera and on the record, will take place in the State Department's press Briefing Room (Room 2209).

Mr. Beers will make opening remarks and then will take questions. Following the formal briefing, a 50-minute video of footage from the U.S. Citation tracking aircraft will be shown. A transcript of the video will be made available at the briefing. Broadcasters may contact the State Department Press Office for copies of the videotape.

Press wishing to attend this briefing should arrive at the 23rd Street entrance (between C and D Streets, NW) and present a media-issued photo identification card or letter from their employer on letterhead, accompanied by an official photo identification card (driver's license, passport).

Advance Copies of the Embargoed Report

Embargoed copies of the report will be available on Thursday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m. in the State Department's Press Office (Room 2109). The entire report is EMBARGOED until the conclusion of the press briefing, approximately 4:00 p.m., August 2. The report is available on a first-come, first-served basis, one copy per media organization, and must be collected in person from Room 2109. Copies will NOT be reserved, mailed, faxed, or delivered to a building entrance.

Electronic Access to the Report via Internet

The full text of the report will be available for downloading from the State Department web site at: http://www.state.gov after the press briefing on August 2.
