International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia Krstic Trial Judgement

The United States welcomes the important judgement of genocide issued today in The Hague by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the matter of the Prosecutor against Krstic. This judgement sends a strong message that genocide will not be tolerated and that perpetrators will be brought to justice. It is our hope that the families of the victims and others affected by this horrific period in history can find some solace in the fact that justice is being rendered for these atrocities.

Today’s decision lays out the historical record and underscores the necessity of apprehending others accused of this horrendous event, most notably Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic.

We commend the International Tribunal for its pursuit of justice in this matter and will continue to support credible efforts to bring violators of international humanitarian law to account.
