U.S. Congratulates NATO Task Force Harvest in Macedonia

We congratulate the NATO Task Force Harvest on successfully completing its mission to collect weapons from the insurgents in Macedonia within the 30 day established time frame. This NATO mission was an essential element of the international community's effort to prevent civil war in Macedonia.

The disarmament of the insurgents, as well as their disbandment, which is underway, will help create a stable environment for implementation of the Framework Agreement.

We welcome the decision by NATO yesterday to deploy a follow-on force to Macedonia to support OSCE and European Union monitors as they assist in the implementation of the Framework Agreement

Now, Macedonian politicians must fulfill completely their commitments, expressed in the Framework Agreement signed on August 13, 2001. We urge the party leaders to implement fully the Framework Agreement, according to the agreed timeline.
