QUESTION TAKEN AT NOVEMBER 8, 2001 DAILY PRESS BRIEFING

Terrorism: New Terrorist Organizations

QUESTION: Is there any deadline in responding to Attorney General Ashcroft's request that we look at adding additional organizations to the list subject to financial controls under the executive order? Where do we stand on our consideration of this request?

ANSWER:  WHILE THERE IS NO FORMAL DEADLINE, WE ARE MOVING RAPIDLY TO USE THE NEW COUNTERTERRORISM TOOL THAT CONGRESS PROVIDED TO HELP US KEEP TERRORISTS OUT OF THE UNITED STATES. DESIGNATIONS UNDER THE PATRIOT USA ACT'S "TERRORIST EXCLUSION LIST" WILL BE MADE SOON.
