| Taken Questions Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC November 7, 2001 QUESTION TAKEN AT NOVEMBER 8, 2001 DAILY PRESS BRIEFING Resumption of Interdiction Program in Peru and Colombia
QUESTION: Where are we on resuming air interdiction flights in Peru and Colombia? ANSWER: No final decision has been made. The National Security Council has directed an interagency working group to review the findings submitted by Ambassador Morris Busby (retired) and to prepare a revised, regional concept of operations that would allow resumption of U.S. support to the Governments of Peru and Colombia to assist them in interdicting drug trafficking aircraft. This concept must incorporate the concerns raised in the accident investigation report and by the U.S. Congress. We are mindful of the concerns expressed by the Governments of Peru and Colombia, and we will complete this review process as quickly as possible, while ensuring a thorough and thoughtful review. |
