| Taken Questions Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC November 14, 2001 QUESTION TAKEN AT NOVEMBER 14, 2001 DAILY PRESS BRIEFING Mexico: Release of Environmental Human Rights Activists
Question: What is the U.S. opinion of the release of Mexican environmentalists Rodolfo Montiel and Teodoro Cabrera? Answer: We applaud this important gesture and the strong reaffirmation of Mexico’s commitment to an improved human rights record it signals. We note that Digna Ochoa, of Mexico’s Human Rights Center, had been these activists’ attorney before her murder. Given President Fox’s outstanding commitment to the rule of law and the advancement of human rights, we believe every effort will be made to investigate her murder to the fullest extent. |
