TAKEN QUESTION
Office of the Spokesman
Washington, DC
February 28, 2001

Q: What can you tell us about a visiting delegation of North Korean economic officials?

A:

  • Four working-level officials from the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Department of International Economic Organizations, and trade bank are visiting Washington and New York February 27-March 5.
  • The delegation is sponsored by the Stanley Foundation and the American Research Center for Asia and the Pacific.
  • The purpose of their program is to introduce them to a market economy, to trade practices in the U.S., and to key economic and trade institutions.
  • There are no meetings at the State Department or other departments. However, we expect that officials from the Office of Korean Affairs will attend a reception hosted by the sponsors later this week.
