Office of the Spokesman
Washington, DC
February 28, 2001

Q: Please provide information about the visit by PRC State Council Taiwan Office Vice Minister Zhou Mingwei.

A: Zhou Mingwei, Vice Minister in the PRC State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, at the State Department this week met separately with Acting Secretary Alan Larson on Tuesday and with the East Asia and Pacific Bureau Deputy Assistant Secretary Darryl Johnson on Monday.

We continue to emphasize in all of our conversations with the PRC the Taiwan issue that we believe the framework for managing the Taiwan issue has been a productive and successful one. Our enduring concern is that any resolution of the differences between Taiwan and the mainland be peaceful and in accord with the wishes of the people of Taiwan.
