| Media Note Office of the Spokesman Washington, DC May 10, 2002 Release of the Second Report of the Advisory Committee on Labor DiplomacySince its inception on May 21, 1999, the Advisory Committee on Labor Diplomacy has advised the Secretary of State and the President on the scope and direction of U.S. international labor policy. The Committee, which is made up of eight of the nation’s leading authorities on worker rights, completed its second report to the Secretary at the end of last year. The second report, entitled Labor Diplomacy: In the Service of Democracy and Security, analyzes how U.S. labor diplomacy efforts can contribute to the U.S. Government’s initiatives on democracy-building and the enhancement of our national security. The report includes a number of recommendations for strengthening the role of labor diplomacy in the interagency context. This report is now available to the public.
