Becoming a U.S. Diplomat: The First Step is Just a Click Away

The U.S. Department of State is pleased to announce that registration is open for the Fall 2002 Foreign Service Written Exam. This is the first time in the Department’s 221-year history that the exam will be given twice in one calendar year; the exam was last administered on April 13, 2002.

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell is committed to strengthening the front lines of diplomacy with service-minded U.S. citizens from all walks of life. A career in the U.S. Foreign Service is an opportunity for citizens to be the face of America to the world and serve their country in a job that can really make a difference, every day of the week.

Registering for the Foreign Service Written Exam is the first step toward becoming a U.S. diplomat and it is just a few clicks away. Online registration is free and is now available at www.careers.state.gov. The exam will be held at hundreds of locations throughout the United States and around the world on September 21, 2002.

Registration deadlines for the September 21 exam are August 13 for test sites in the U.S. and August 5 for overseas test sites.
