Secretary Powell to present Award at American Foreign Service Association Ceremony

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will present the annual American Foreign Service Association’s Award for Lifetime Contributions to American Diplomacy to Ambassador Thomas Pickering, former Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, on Thursday, June 27, at 4:00 p.m., in the Benjamin Franklin Room of the State Department. Secretary Powell also will present a special certificate to Alice Pickering for her support as a Foreign Service spouse during her husband’s career.

This event is open for press coverage.
                                     Pre-set time for cameras: 3:00 p.m.
                                     Final access time for all press: 3:30 p.m.
                                     Press must use the 23rd Street entrance.

Media representatives may cover this event upon presentation of either (1) a US Government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), (2) a photo ID issued by the employing media organization, or (3) a letter on official letterhead from their news organization verifying their employment as a journalist, accompanied by an official photo ID (driver’s license or passport).
