Secretary Powell to accept Liberty Medal and make remarks at the Liberty Medal Luncheon, Thursday, July 04, 2002

Secretary of State Colin L. Powell will be presented with the 2002 Philadelphia Liberty Medal by Mayor John F. Street during the City of Philadelphia’s official Independence Day celebration program on Thursday, July 4, 2002, at 10:30 a.m., in Independence Square, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Secretary will make his acceptance remarks at approximately 10:40 a.m. Secretary Powell is the fourteenth recipient of this internationally-prestigious honor.

Following the medal ceremony, Secretary Powell will make brief remarks at the Liberty Medal Luncheon in the Crystal Tea Room, 9th Fl., Wanamaker Building, Juniper & Market Streets, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Secretary’s remarks will be at approximately 11:30 a.m.

Secretary Powell will not take questions at either event.

Pre-set time for cameras: 7:00 a.m.
Final access time for all press: 8:00 a.m.
Press must enter on Walnut Street between 5th & 6th Street.
