Car Bomb Explosion in Santa Pola

The United States strongly condemns the cowardly and senseless bomb attack on August 4 in the Spanish town of Santa Pola, which killed two people and injured many others. Spanish authorities believe the ETA terrorist group was responsible for this attack. The two killed were a six-year-old girl playing in her bedroom and a man waiting at a nearby bus stop when the blast occurred. More than 200 homes and a Civil Guard barracks were damaged in the attack. United States extends its deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.

We deplore ETA's long-running campaign to terrorize and kill innocent civilians. We continue to support Spain in its vigorous efforts to combat terrorism and bring the perpetrators of this despicable attack to justice.
