Department Commemoration of September 11, 2001

Deputy Secretary of State, Richard Armitage, will preside over a ceremony to commemorate our fallen countrymen on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. in the "C" Street Lobby of the Harry S Truman Building.

The ceremony will involve the presentation of colors, the singing of our national anthem, remarks by the Deputy Secretary, and a moment of silence. The Ground Zero photo exhibit by Joel Meyerowitz is on display in the "C" Street Lobby through September 20.

This event is open for press coverage and media representatives who plan to attend should arrive at the State Department’s C Street entrance at 7:30 a.m. Final access is 8:00 a.m.

Press interested in attending should present either (1) a U.S. Government issued (State Department, Foreign Press Center, White House, Congress, Department of Defense) photo media identification card, (2) a media issued photo identification card, or (3) a letter on media organization letterhead stating the individual is employed to cover the Department of State, accompanied by an official photo identification (drivers license or passport).

Please not that the C Street Mezzanine will be closed before and during this commemoration event and will reopen upon Diplomatic Security’s discretion.
